Gaming ST Comp Voting Procedure
Darth Raver Darth Raver is offline 19-09-2011, 13:53 PM

Greetings, MP3Uers.

This competition is now closed to new entries.
Thank you for all the amazing high quality entries we have had.
The judgement phase will now begin. Any registered artists with music on the site, please PM me with your choice of best soundtrack (top 2 tracks - second choice will only be tallied if there is a first place tie) before the voting deadline midnight September 30th.
Artists who only registered for this comp may also vote, but needless to say no-one may vote for their own song.

Good Luck everyone,

Darth

The Contenders:

MARTEZ - Hope For Life
who said "i was picturing a post apocalyptic world set in the future and the world is over run by mindless, blood lusting human-like creatures (Zombies if you will! lol) who seek out any living life on the planet and feed on it. There are some survivors though! Two Women, one skilled in hand to hand combat and the other a gun toting vixen with deadly looks and gun skills to match. In this track i see them standing ontop of a building with no other means of escape, they look out across a sea of undead corpses looking to tear them from limb to limb and they know its only a matter of time before they are savaged by the beasts. They havent given up hope just yet, they are prepared for one more fight... they will not go quietly!"

LIQUID - Of Ice & Fire
who said "My track is based on a scene from an imaginary game I have called TRINITY which is a slight twist on Alien Invasion theme as this time two different Alien forces have Earth in their sites but for different purposes - Wheras as one alien force plan to comsume the earth in fire there is another force set on bringing Ice to the surface of the planet. In this scene the last remaining ship of some Navy or other has just broken through the mist and sailed into what remains of their home port to witness the devastation for the very first time."

Alive - The Chase
who said "A secret agent/spy/mission impossible/James Bond type scenario for a vintage games console such as the nintendo. Imagine car chases, prowling through enemy bases searching for top secret dossiers ,a rendezvous with a beautiful eastern european defector - gun/knife fights with enemy agents and as always a race against time."

KtA - No Mercy
who said "Rather than going for an ''in game'' soundtrack, have gone for an intro movie track (which would normally feature action scenes cut from the gameplay) First person shoot 'em up ''Call of Duty'' type scenario set somewhere in the Middle East...pick a country lol. Starts off subdued as the Special Ops board the plane, then when the percs/voices kick in they parachute in to do their stuff...you know...war stuff. At the end when it all drops out,one Special Ops sneaks out of the darkness,up behind an enemy and silently eliminates him...then slips back into the shadows............PLAY LOUD "

ANDYF - Final Asteroid Chase
who said "'Final Asteroid Chase' sees our Hero trying to return to the Mothership following a mission of combat and this is the final encounter of Asteroids he has to engage before docking to safety. He is tired and has to have all his wits about him in negotiating this force of nature before him. Eventually he succeeds in avoiding the catastrophe and this final chase home rewards him with the sight of the mothership in the calm of the universe...."

TonyMiller - DOOM 2011
who said "When Hell's gates open, demons will devour the Earth. You are Earth's last hope. The gateway to Hell which was opened on Deimos has released the denizens of Hell - Demons, Revenants, Zombies and tortured souls - onto colonised Mars. No humans survived. Despite several brave attempts, Earth's forces have failed to prevent the denizens of Hell from teleporting to Earth, into the heart of Chicago. They are prevented from spreading further by a hastily constructed force field around the city. That force field is failing. It is your mission to be teleported into Chicago to repair the force field power supply.... May your Gods go with you.
Beliol, Sheol, Cthulthu, Baal, Beelzebub, Lucifer... SHAITAN!!!"

MezzerUK - Climbing High
who said "The scene is set around an Action RPG... the changing moods reflected in the music. Open world, huge exploration area. Its more a theme tune to the title of a said game or to tell a back story of a main character. COuld maybe get used in the intro or demonstration .Blending both synth work and orchestral to create this whole soundscape.."

The Fondue Brothers - Leap Frog
who said "Here in 80's land we have a great new game called "Leap Frog". The Frogs have to cross the pond by hopping from one lilly pad to the next. You get extra points if you land on the back of a turtle, but watch out for the alligator."

Dacheleigh Music - Sovereign Renegade (Choice of Life)
who said "OPENING SCENE - The year is 4857... Future tech cities seem eerie with no life, no lights, no movements... A battle? A plague? A civil war? What happened here? - In a half destroyed home is a child.. Lonely.. Crying.. Memories surface.. One world. Always seeking new ways to "better the planet".. Did they go too far? - You are T'Zara.. She is against the research. She fought many battles.. Was injured to near death, but still.. She fights on. Until one day, IT GOES TOO FAR.. Her final battle leads to a choice. Leave the planet with refugees and watch it be destroyed? Or risk eveything, and save the planet. She chooses to risk it all. But this choice also has a steep price. 90% or more of the world's population would be lost in the process. This is her final fight.. These are her final breaths of life.. --ENDING SCENE(music): She is laying on the ground deathly wounded.. Screen slowly fades to white as she draws her last breath, and she knows she made the right choice.. The planet is safe...."

James Oakwood - Proximity Effect
who said "The console chooses 5 random characters that you have to coerce into operating together. In this particular rendition of the game, the console choose my team to be Skeletor, Hitler, Peter Bonetti (ex chelsea goalie from the 1970s), Sir Robin Day (BBC presenter and now unfortunately deceased) and Che Guevara. Their mission - to assasinate Timmy Mallet (an former UK TV character randomly chosen by the console of course). The music kinda follows the antics of the game to it's succesful conclusion. Hope you enjoyed the game. I did. Now please don't hold-back on the comments - I expect shouts of derision and schlaps across the face for this poor attempt."

Gravity Slip - Kiss of Death
who said "The scene is the final chapter in a zombie infected spaceship game. All hell has broken out..onto the the final corridors amunnition very low,and the boss zombie of all zombies turns up lol.Boss dies on second to last bullet(creature is in the soundtrack).Final bullet opens the lift to get the girl......and this is the closing music with credts."

Geekboyy - WorldWar2012
who said "crazy, Dark, Gloomy, everytime i hear it i get goosebumps."

msl - Days of Peace
who said "SETTING: This is a peaceful village theme. This is where the protagonist sets his goals to achieve his dreams. This where it all begins, the cozy village he calls home."

Bluestone - Stasis
who said "You're adrift. Floating in space. Dark, towering shapes on either side of you as you try to manoeuvre towards the wreck of your ship. What was that? A sudden movement over on the right. Was it debris, or something else, moving under its own power? It's getting lighter now, as the fire from the wreckage reflects on the inside of your space helmet. Oh no..."

Wavephonic - Machine Ritual
who said "I use to live across the street from an old factory filled with ancient machines, loud and scarey sounding things. there was no night shift but I swear there was activity inside that building at night. I think the things had a mind of their own and fought each other, only the strong wouldn't be replaced. I thought of a desktop game where I controlled one inside the warehouse looking for weak machines to pound into submission. plodding along hearing echoes through the building. one of the machines had a big windup and started smashing me, I briefly got clear to try a different attack. purposely as the other machine went into its big telecasted windup I struck 1st before it could attack. hitting my controller with everything I got it down. as it lay on its side in broken pieces still living, I administered the final blow. the game called, "Machine Ritual" was scored with only synths, guitars and mic effects."

C.Q. - Ain't Playing Games
who said "I seen the link posted for the game soundtrack and I just had to enter my song! It's titled "Ain't Playing Games" It's also know as the ultimate gamer track. It's not about a particular game, but I mention over 30 different games across 10 different platforms. Everything from Asteroids to Zelda every rhyme is a video game! I hope you appreciate the song I think it's worthy hopefully you will too!"

Demagol/Pulsipher - Mass Effect/Dr. Saleon
who said "Genre: Action RPG
Platforms: PC, Xbox 360

SCENARIO:
My track accompanies a story, where the commander Shepard's team infiltrates a derelict ship presumably belonging to a mad criminal scientist named Dr. Saleon, responsible for various sick experiments on humans and other sentient beings. So the team infiltrates the ship and witnesses quite a lot of horrifying stuff on their way to meet the dreaded scientist himself."

Charlie Armour - Escape 3rd Earth
who said "Retired soldier(John creek) is trapped on a dying planet filled with creatures caused by Military bio-weapons. The only way to escape this torture is killing every single creature or taking his own life"

DJGrizzly - Salty Bacon
who said "make sure you have headphones or subs that pick up bass or it doesnt sound the same"

Thanks DJGrizzly. Before someone else brings it up, I thought I should point out that some kind of description of the game you had in mind might be helpful.

indiana 99/Code-9 - Glamis
who said "The genre of game I have chosen is aimed at freestyle motocross in the desert. Leisure stunts, if you like! I wrote the track watching a video of these guys catching big air and enjoyin massive jumps in the Glamis dunes, California. Hence the title. Equally the track would be a good backing for many other big air sports, or even better, the highlights...LOL!!!"

Pidgeman - Adrenaline Rush
who said "This would be the theme tune for the opening credits and an in game track for a Red Bull Air Race simulation. Fly your one seater plane through the gates on a twisting circuit as fast and accurately as possible in cities all over the world to become the Red Bull Air Race World Champion. Lightning fast reflexes and skill are all that is keeping you from almost certain death."

If there are any broken/mistaken links or I have omitted any important details, please let me know. If there are valid objections raised in time any song or songs may be removed from the list later.

Let the voting begin!

Done, although as I've said on several compo entries, I have no idea what a games soundtrack should be like. Maybe my vote should be invalid because of that? In fact anyone voting ought to state their ability to "judge" such a competition. I did ask my bitch which music she thought was most appropriate and she advised me - she is experienced in the modern game-culture so maybe my vote is valid?

Good luck to everyone in the compo

Andy

Read the game scenario whilst listening to the music and if the music paints an image as described by the brief then it's job done - thats how I'm forming a judgement

Thanks to all those who have voted so far.

Believe it or not, as of this moment there are three times as many entrants in the comp as votes received! Wonder why...

Could it be because, since we never said entrants had to vote for another song, some clever artists reckon it's best not to give an advantage point to a rival, so best to keep mum...

Surely not, as everyone is aware that whomever voted for whom is going to be made public when the votes are tallied Just kidding - it's up to you to vote or not, and as Ant said, maybe some people aren't sure how to, or never got a chance to listen to them all. No biggie.

Anyhoo, there's only about one day left available to get your votes in, so any non-entrants who feel like giving a plug to a track they particularly liked, now's your chance.

See you on the other side!

Darth

Might well be, Ant, but there is something to be said for people who haven't had a chance to listen to all the tracks and feel it unfair to vote on the basis of a handful of listens...

Having said that, there is still about 8 and a half hours left to cast a vote for the Comp if you haven't already done so. There are 21 entries in all, so there's still plenty of time for anyone to give them a listen too.

Keep those votes pouring in guys and gals! I feel like a Eurovision presenter who is standing there with a blank smile waiting for the next vote to come in while the tech staff try to regain contact with Luxembourg...
