'Must have' free VST's?

I guess this question should cover all DAW's that support VST's and VSTi's. What free VST's are you running on your setup that you consider indispensable? It would be very handy if you could give a very brief explanation of what it does - also 'free' is the name of the game here

I'll post up a few that are relevant to guitarists later when I get home (reverb, chorus, flanger, tube effects and various distortions etc) but I'm sure they would work just as well for the electronic crowd.

Looking to streamline my setup and ditch all of the useless VST's I've amassed for some plug-ins that are worth having - this could become a cool resource thread if we keep it to useful stuff that MP3ers are actually using.

Crystal is one of my main FREE 'go-to' synthesizers that I've mad all kinds of sounds from. It's a semi-modular synthesizer that has both subtractive synthesis and frequency modulation. It has pretty much endless modulation control with a crap load of things that can be modulated, multi-stage envelopes with graphical editors, tempo sync envelopes, lfo, delay times, built-in effects for chorus, flanging, comb filtering, echoes, and a band splitter for effects to proces frequency bands. It's got wave sequencing, granular synthesis, program morphing, MIDI learn, and can imports soundfonts. And it's FREEE! There's so much you can do with it. Theres even a section where you can mate and breed sounds! AHHHH! You can download it here. I make a lot of sounds and I have so many sounds saved on it, I would be lost if I didn't have it. It's old but very good. It won't letcha' down!
