ABOUT IPs & VOTEs !!!

LET US MAKE CLEAR THE PRESENT AND ONGOING POLICY REGARDING VOTES AND IP ADDRESSES:

In theory two or more human beings who independently and honestly have a high personal regard for any given song could vote from one computer and technically no rules have be broken.

However, the mp3u software has no way of knowing how many real humans voted from one IP, therefore the one vote per IP address rule is in effect, in order to eliminate those unscrupulous cheats who would vote hundreds of times from the same computer - just because they could.

Some have called for the abolition of votes accepted from listener accounts, however, we feel outside votes are a good gauge of how the world outside accepts our music.

Therefore, we will continue to accept listener votes, but note:

All votes for any song, be they from musician or listener accounts, will originate from one and only one original IP address.

Multiple accounts attributed to one IP address can sometimes be valid (in the case of musician side projects etc.) however we can no longer accept mutiple votes through different accounts from the same IP on the same song. If any such votes are discovered they will be deleted immediately.

We are serious about this issue, as hopefully is clear from how we dealt with a recent member who reached number 1 by less than honest methods.

I think a 1 song per artist in the chart rule would be a good idea - is the easiest option that voting is disabled on all songs on an artistes page but the master track - and the master track is the song that the atiste wants nominating to chart - hope that makes sense

Alive has a good idea, yep. Deon also puts valid points over.... But I still say fukc the charts... whats the point?... no one really listens that much and no one really cares?.... or do they?..

Site has become to big for its boots and too commercial.... new layout is crazy!! much prefered the old... thats another matter and just my thoughts.. cant please all..even someone who is easy going like me and will chuck my toys when im pissed off...

Problem is this. If there is a goal or a comp, a chance to win of be at the top it causes passion to flair up... people want to win, want to be top , its life and human nature... its like playing footy, a friendly is not a friendly if you are keeping score. If your keeping score then there are winners and losers...something to play for... its that fire we all have.. Some people will never see that?..

I dont post much here so my thoughts wont count for much, i pretty much keep my work elsewhere, but i have alot of respect for artists i have met here and artists i have recorded with... so i will pop in from time to time...

Decided to agree with everyone and think everyones suggestions should be implemented from having No Chart to one weeks mandatory #1 for every artist, also mandatory execution for downloading without commenting or least listening to the track over and over to the point of obsession - hope I sucked up to everyone there I would hate to think I had a personal opinion that wasnt popular with everyone else

Well occasionally Mart I just wish people would say what they really think rather than this oooo I best say this or that so I dont upset that person as there so in the clique around here. Last week a new comer `Alive` did really well in the chart and was publicly humiliated with taunts of cheat going on in threads and openly the chat room, wheras a regular wouldnt have faced the same.

Probably the only time I agree with Ricky that occasionally a little bit of honesty goes a long way. Ironically this response will likely prompt a little honesty in my direction which is perfectly fine and I look forward to the thought of others

I have to say that those are probably the wisest words on this whole debate, and I want to say thank you for reminding me! I remember a certain artist a few years back (whom I won't name) who made all their tracks inelligible for the charts preffering to simply load tracks to be enjoyed or otherwise by those who cared to view. I was in great admiration, though, I hasten to add, I did not follow suit, which was to my detriment of course.

Creativity has never been about winners and losers, for sure.

You are right on the money imho, this world of winners and losers is a pitiful place at best, and we don't have to look to far in the big wide world to see where it gets us right? Guess all we can do is keep our own counsel and rest in knowing we are living by what feels right and fair, if we can summon the courage to do so.

For a start, I was not ticking Deon off in any way, just trying to respectfully answer his question.
I admit to making a mistake about the length of time Deon has been a member here, but it was more a reaction to his quote "I guess in terms of credibility of the site, from the perspective of someone coming upon it who isn't familiar with it's working" than anything else. I made the assumption that I was talking to a newcomer without checking their background. My bad.

So, apologies to Deon if I came across as sarcastic in tone. That's not my style.

We have put more effort into the design and layout than before, but what makes you say "too commercial"? All of the ads in the main page carousel slideshow are internal ads for MP3U itself, with the exception of occasional competitions which are sponsored by outside companies and which benefit MP3U users...

If you can find one external commercial or advertisement on the site, please let me know, because I can assure you it was not endorsed by MP3U. From its inception to the present moment, MP3U has been a non-profit endeavour run by volunteers.

I feel like sitting sadly in a dark corner of my death star and covering my helmet with my dark cloak....

This site is a community of musicians as it always has been. Even I, as admin, agree with Mezzer to a point. The charts can be fun, but can anyone name all the the number one songs per week from January 1st to now? I doubt it, including even the lucky few who have had number ones within that period.

The charts are a bit of fun.

The community is everything.

I just read your post, went back and read your original response to Deon and then my response to it! I have to say actually I think I was having a bad day or something because your response to Deon was actually a helpful one but when I first read it I found it condescending. What can I say other than sorry guys I guess.
