Hi Rich,
I've noticed this as a problem recently too. One of the things that is becoming a problem is when a new user uploads all of their tracks and ticks the create new forum post option. The result is 10 new tracks in a row from a user who doesn't even post in the forum. This is something that needs to be addressed. One thing that we could do is change the text in the upload area that users uploading tracks can only choose one for uploading to the forum at a time. Any additional tracks will be deleted. We could of course allow users to have as many as three or four tracks in the New MP3's section but they would have to be actively commenting on other peoples tracks. This could work and it wouldn't take too much work to police. What say Ye of MP3? A PS You won't ever be censored around here Rich unless you are posting up nudey pics or start flaming other users, which would seem a little out of character!

Another question we need to ask is, do we want/need the automatically create a new thread for a new song feature? The idea behind it was that it would increase activity in the forum and make new users more aware of the forum.
If it just results in a whole load of new tracks being posted by users who don't use the forum itself then there is no point in keeping it. Interested in hearing what everyone think about this feature too. A

Mmmm difficult one I think. I`m one of Rich`s biggest fans and if I notice a new Lodato track posted I`ll always take a listen and comment. That said I had never heard of him before I came to MP3U and for the same reason I`m thankful to this site for introducing him to me, I dont want to be denied the opportunity to be introduced to someone new (VIP or otherwise). On balance I think the solution lies in a technological solution rather than a rules based system.
A few thoughts (may not be technologically possible or very expensive v potential gain):- 1. A Weekly personalised mail shot listing artists/genres I've specified I want to be notified on. 2. Artists loading multiple tracks in the same day would select which track they elect to be listed, or listing is only possible after creating a post to the forum? 3. Allow artists to elect not to list their tracks where for example they are loading older tracks taking advantage of the 100 free tracks offer. 4. Perhaps artists could gain some sort of credit based on posts made in the forum that could then be used to validate multiple listings? I think once we start being too controlling over who can list and who cannot the site loses for me the essence of what attracted me in the first place - Fair play has to be the aspiration which I know is unrealistic but its a nice ideal.

Maybe a time limit between uploadings? This was used for message postings to effectively eliminate robot postings. Maybe if people had to wait a few hours or even a day between uploadings? I would imagine it would only apply to tracks not previously posted, cos many's the time I've uploaded a track and 5 minutes later realised it's the wrong version or it doesn't fade or sommert... Just a thewt... (rustling sound of coat being put on...)

I tested the post to new thread thing for the last 4 weeks or so, and to be frank it has made no difference to traffic for me, basically I would suggest you scrap it as if you want to promote your songs you need to be active and post a thread and actually push the tracks you are trying to get out there and this also encourages people to listen to other peoples tracks. The automated thing merely encourages a 'disconnect' of sorts from the forum.
Secondly, the latest posts thing on the main page is just not working, you urgently need to address it to show a higher number of new tracks (similar to the old site) as people are missing new tracks as they relied on the old method and it worked well and did not need to be fixed, this would seem to be priority as it keeps getting mentioned across multiple threads and seems an issue for lots of people. I know you have mentioned a problem with the main page hosting large numbers of tracks (or something along those line) Just add a link to the latest track page to another page listing the last fifty tracks uploaded or something, as this would take the strain off the main page and still keep the functionality there for those who want it (hope this makes sense)

Oh, and what's going on with this 'going live' thing lol, just get the site going, it will never be perfect lol, just press the button and get on with hahaha

Not being able to see a robust list of new trax on the main page is my #1 gripe. I relied on it for spotting the new releases by folk and inevitably I will have missed a few due to the shortcomings we currently have.
I think if ya want folk to use the forum maybe introduce this: when someone comments on a track the artist gets an email with a link to the forum post. I can think of at least 2 other sites that kinda do this. I like the idea of benefitting from sustained replying to forum posts. Maybe the "benefit" could automatically bump your latest mp3 to the top of the new mp3 forum page or, reinstate your latest song on the new release listing... call it the "new release/kudos" list. I think it's totally pointless to put ten new trax up and expect all to get commented on. If ya want comments then push one up at a time and do the biz in the forum. Anyone slapping up ten songs in one go has to be aware that they will naturally get minimal comments from folk AND should therefore expect 9 out of the ten (or even all ten) not to get listed individually on the new mp3 slot. Maybe the main page new mp3 listing should only show new songs by vips (gonna duck down behind the chair to avoid the tomatoes being thrown now) I like the visibility of user comments on the front page and think this should be enhanced esp to show the artist? Re the forum updater - it's handy being able to log into the site and be automatically logged into the forum. I have to say I agree that the automatic posting of new songs is not working as planned - we live and learn I guess. Might just kill that idea and go back to the old fashioned method of users creating their own posts in the forum they want to pimp their own music... We'll definitely be increasing the number of latest uploaded tracks visible on the main page though. It used to be 20 but now it's at 10. How would you guys feel about having a tab similar to the top 100 which shows the previous 10 uploads when clicked? It could go all the way back to 50 or even 100. The problem with increasing the number of latest tracks from 10 to 20 is it would require a complete redesign of the homepage which would not be an easy thing to do. Also, having an additional 10 links would start cluttering thing up. Being able to shuffle through the uploads should work though. What do you think?

Regarding the 'latest upload' thing, as you said, the previous site had 20 now it it 10, but there was a link to a further page with a much larger selection of new tracks, this is the missing functionality, there is no need to alter the front page really, just provide the link to a page that would list the 'latest' tracks. Is this feasible ?
