So yesterday I walk into the living room to see my son looking up suicide on the internet.....so I'm like what are you doing?...My homework he says....English homework......5 reasons for and against suicide!......wtf has suicide got to do with english......I wonder what the next lot is.....5 reasons for and against crack? Nice to know our kids are learning topics that will help them get a job!

Sounds like quite an interesting and stimulating topic despite the subject matter being seen as a touch taboo, they have obviously discussed it in class as a group and are now being asked to write down their views and evaluations on paper. It's all about stimulating thought and reason isn't it, and sometimes by discussing morbid subjects one can demystify them and weigh them up in the cold harsh light of day. Probably....

We were taught about drugs at school all those years ago and were told they were bad m'kay, and they were right. They mostly turn you into a complete fking deluded idiot, a bit like X Factor.

Well I just think it's wrong......end of.......as for the drug education......that worked didn't it........we have a drug free society......show them a video about the realities of drugs and the devastating affect it has on families....instead of a humor advert about speaking to Frank! twats

My class was taught sex education by a nun. Sometimes I just like to write that down, read it back and think to myself, WTF? She didn't even know how to pronounce the word penis let alone know what one looked like.

very morbid subject...to be honest, I don't think I would appreciate my son reading up on that subject...but I do feel it does have very much to do with English...that been reading and then writing it...but FFS 5 reason for!!! that is pretty steep.

He is 14 Ricky.....and at a very impressionable age imo! He has turned into Kevin the teenager....mood swings and all.....not a time for him to be reading up on suicide! What about all those kids in Wales who killed themselves apparently they had been surfing suicide sites! I just think it is totally irresponsible......and totally irrelevant to their education......

Literally never heard of anything like this in my entire life, we never had that knd of homework in high school or home school, I still have all english courses sittin right here, that's not in any lesson plan, difference in schooling, Americans wouldn't flip out about kids coming up with reason's against suicide but you say they want 10 reasons, 5 for and 5 against? Not only is that sick but it's also humiliating, I do however understand (Rather Suspect) why they're doing this.

They won't say it til it's public concern, and maybe I'm wrong, but with all the recent suicides through the years, both US and UK, it would be VERY beneficial to find out which kids are having some kind of life crisis, the reasons they give for suicide will alert to some mentalities, I' m gonna laugh when a kid turns in the 5 for but not against with the reason that they don't have a reason not to kill them self LMAO!

I been thinking about this all day...and you know what..this has really freaked me out...I honesty can't believe any school would even touch on this subject.

I'd be tempted to speak to some kind of local authority...maybe even the papers.
